Hilary Philips
I’m a Cumbrian girl living on the south coast of England in Worthing, West Sussex. I’ve been a Creative Textiles & Art teacher since 1993. I trained at Leicester polytechnic, graduating in 1987 with a BA Hons in Structural Textiles with a Weave specialism.
In 1992 I trained to be a teacher at Leeds University and have been teaching Creative Textiles and Art in secondary schools ever since.
I run workshops in my garden studio Moth Studio and at venues around East & West Sussex.
My work is mixed media stitched & printed Textiles. I’m inspired by colour, pattern and am quite ‘linear’ in my work using various palettes and textures creatively
Luis Lansdall
Luis Lansdall is from Shoreham and trained in Brighton and Bath. He is a line artist specializing in black & white pen illustrations which are known for their intricate detail. His work explores a broad range of themes from history to occultism, interwoven with surrealist and classical inspirations. At present he is working freelance and has done work for musicians for album covers publicity and merchandise. He has also created tattoo designs and other commissioned work.
With a background in graphic communication and illustration, Luis creates a narrative in his art that encourages you to interpret and explore his works, each illustrated with a story in mind. Luis will be selling framed and unframed prints and postcards
Pru Heath
Pru Heath is a Brighton based artist whose atmospheric paintings capture the beauty and fragility of our natural world.
Themes of love, hope, passion, care for the environment and humanity are threaded through her pictures.
Pru is interested in how art and culture are often used as tools of resistance and the struggle for a better world. She subscribes to this tradition and honours the stance of always standing with the oppressed and never the oppressor.
Working mostly in watercolour but bringing in a hint of magic with other media her work is inspired by JMW Turner, Gaudi, Hundertwasser, John Piper and most of all nature herself.
Mick Burton
Brighton based Mick Burton crafts life sized pieces of wood with stained glass to suggest figures in motion, often in dance stance, using the figure and feel of the wood, capturing movement with light and colour.
Jaq Buckeridge
Jaq Buckeridge moved to Sussex in 1990s to do an MA in Fine Art at Brighton University. She then worked in fashion for nearly 20 years . Approximately 10 years ago she found ceramics at Pottery Gagliano and the rest is history!
She now runs a popular Artist Open House in Hove called Salon des Sources and makes art specifically for the May Festival .
Showing for her first time in Shoreham, Jaq will be focusing on her porcelain flowers. Her work holds lots of themes around man’s need to connect with nature . She loves process , often experimenting with surface painting in oxides and underglaze on stoneware.
Exhibiting in the Secret Garden via Number 71, her stylised porcelain flora will be mixed in with a field of Wild Flowers, creating the must see garden of the festival.
Find the log cabin filled with paintings and other goodies at the end of the garden.
