No. 38

38 Boundary Road, Lancing, BN15 8NF

Come and see us, Samantha Jane Anderson and Melanie Hickmore; we are excited to exhibit together for the first time. Experience guest artist Mel’s bold, expressive and magical paintings. Engage with resident artist Sam in her studio and see Sam’s nature and folklore-inspired acrylic paintings.

Sam and Mel are exhibiting at No.38, where Sam has her artist studio. The house is next to the fields, between Old and New Salts Farms, the South Downs, and the Sea. In addition to viewing our Paintings, you can relax in the established back garden with organic tea, coffee, and homemade cakes.

Samantha Jane Anderson
I am a self-taught artist, living in Lancing, with a developed love of nature, elements, the sea, the South Downs. Current artworks are large, bold paintings on stretched canvas.
I start by painting hybrid landscapes, part-real, part-imagined, the background paint scrubbed into the canvas with a sponge. I add texture to significant shapes by painting distinct blocks of vibrant colours, utilising brushes, rags, artist tools, and layered metallic acrylic paints.
Poured into this mix of notions are memories, folk-tale narratives, universal themes, and archetypes, all converging in a time-old healing story.
Melanie Hickmore
Bold, expressive and magical, my work is a balance between abstraction and realism.
I like to work fast, painting instinctively. I make paintings you can dive into. Spaces to breathe in. I paint stories, what it is to be human.
I work on paper, canvas and board, mostly in acrylics with some collage and print. I love creating layered, messy paintings that refine with each layer. My work is anything up to 1m2 which is what my home studio can accommodate.
I grew up in County Durham and moved to Brighton after studying Fine Art at The University of Northumbria 1995-98.
